World War 2: The Human Element
Course Description:
This course offers an in-depth exploration of World War II, focusing not only on key events and figures, but also on the complex political, social, and ethical questions the war raises. Through a combination of primary sources, historical scholarship, and multimedia materials, students will examine the global causes and consequences of the conflict, including military strategies, the Holocaust, home front dynamics, resistance movements, and post-war reconstruction.
Emphasizing discussion-based learning and critical thinking, students will engage in debates, source analysis, and reflective writing to challenge common narratives, explore underrepresented perspectives, and consider the moral dilemmas faced by individuals and nations. By the end of the course, students will be equipped not only with a strong understanding of WWII's historical arc but also the analytical tools to evaluate its enduring impact on the modern world.
