What is Bright Sparks?

Bright Sparks is a small, hybrid program for kindergarten and first grade, created for academically advanced young children who are ready to reach beyond a typical classroom. Learning is hands-on and joyful, anchored in wonderful books, with arts and STEM woven throughout, and led by an experienced, passionate teacher who knows how to help bright children soar.

Other factors determining if this may be a good fit for your child are below, but are not flexible. My child is:

• Age 5 or 6 years old

• Can work independently for short periods (10 minute or more)

• Is well behaved, works nicely with others, and does not need behavioral interventions

• Potty-trained, independent

• Is showing advanced academic potential

Inside Our Classroom

Our blended kindergarten and first grade classroom brings together the best of both worlds, the playful, nurturing warmth of kindergarten and the growing independence of first grade. It's a hands-on, joyful environment where children build strong foundations at their own pace, guided by high expectations and plenty of encouragement. Here's what your child will explore and grow in with us:

• Reading & Writing. Children build the building blocks of literacy, letter sounds, phonics, and a rich vocabulary, through read-alouds, guided reading, storytelling, and daily writing. Every child reads and writes at their own developmental level, so they're always growing from right where they are.

• Math. From counting and number sense to addition, subtraction, patterns, shapes, and measurement, children learn math by doing, using hands-on materials, games, and real-life problem-solving that make numbers feel natural and fun.

• Exploring the World. Through science and social studies, children investigate the things that spark their curiosity, plants and animals, weather, maps, families, and communities, with plenty of questions, discovery, and wonder along the way.

• Social & Emotional Growth. Just as importantly, children learn how to be part of a community: cooperating, communicating, resolving conflicts, showing empathy, and building the confidence and independence that carry them through school and life.

• Strong Hands & Coordination. The small muscles and hand-eye skills behind writing, drawing, and everyday independence grow through joyful, hands-on practice, coloring, cutting, painting, building, puzzles, play dough, lacing, and sorting. These playful activities quietly build the coordination and focus children need to write, read, and do things for themselves.

• Hands-On & Creative Learning. Art, music, movement, dramatic play, building, and project-based learning are woven through every day. These experiences bring academic concepts to life while nurturing creativity, concentration, and problem-solving.

• A Hands-On, Low-Tech Approach. In our classroom, children learn with paper, pencils, books, and real materials in their hands, not screens. At this age, forming letters by hand, turning the pages of a book, and working through problems on paper build the fine-motor strength, focus, and deep understanding that lasting learning is made of. We use technology thoughtfully and sparingly, only when it truly adds something, so the heart of each day stays rich with conversation, creativity, and hands-on discovery. It's an intentional choice, one that keeps learning personal, tactile, and joyfully unplugged.

• Meeting Every Child Where They Are. Through flexible small groups, individualized attention, and choice-based activities, we keep each child appropriately challenged and supported, so every learner is engaged and growing.

• A Predictable, Balanced Day. Children thrive on rhythm. Our day balances whole-group lessons, small-group work, independent time, play, movement, hands-on centers, outdoor learning, and quiet moments, a steady, comforting structure children can count on.

• Watching Your Child Grow. We track each child's progress everyday according to state standards and through observation, conversations, work samples, and portfolios, following not just academic growth, but coordination, independence, and social development, too.

How Our Hybrid Program Works

Bright Sparks is a hybrid program, thoughtfully designed around how young children actually learn best, in focused bursts, with plenty of room to explore.

Twice a week, children work directly with our teacher in a small, hands-on setting where big ideas take center stage. Between those sessions, our teacher works with you to extended learning activities to continue at home, carefully chosen to build on what happened in class and spark new curiosity.

This is where the partnership really comes to life. You're not handed a stack of just busywork to do outside of class; you're given targeted, meaningful, work that lets you be part of your child's discoveries. Together, we create a rhythm of learning that flows between school and home and helps your child see that learning isn't something that only happens in a classroom.
